2005 Year-end Assessment and Plans for 2006

 

The Disaster Preparedness Committee was able to achieve all the 8 performance targets set in its 2005 Balanced Scorecard.  It was also able to accomplish significant outputs along its specific objectives and functions.

 

Notable 2005 achievements were the formulation of a structured hospital disaster preparedness program, monitoring of sudden cardiopulmonary arrests in the hospital; conduct of fire seminars and drills (twice), conduct of advanced life support course (twice), conduct of basic life support for nonmedical staff (once), awareness seminar on weapons on mass destructions and creation of Task Force Avian Flu and Pandemic Influenza.

 

In 2006, the focus will be on the refinements of policies and procedures on hospital

disaster preparedness program, refinements and improvement on policies and procedures

on sudden cardiopulmonary arrests, conduct of two basic life support courses for

nonmedical staff, continual development of the capacity of the hospital personnel and

organizational resources for optimal performance during times of disaster, and

preparation for potential avian flu and pandemic influenza disaster.  

 

Specific DPC Plans for 2006:

 

  1. Prepare for the potential avian flu and pandemic influenza disaster
  2. Resubmit an entry to Asian Hospital Management Award – Comprehensive MDH Disaster Preparedness Program
  3. Refine policies and procedures on sudden cardiopulmonary arrests
  4. Continue to refine policies and procedures of hospital disaster preparedness program
  5. Continue to develop capacity of the hospital personnel and organizational resources for optimal performance during times of disaster (unit disaster preparedness plans)
  6. Fire seminar and drills (twice a year)
  7. Basic life support and advanced cardiac life support seminar and practicum for health professionals (twice a year)
  8. Pediatric advanced life support seminar and practicum (once a year)
  9. Basic life support seminar and practicum for lay personnel (twice a year)
  10. Fulfill requirements of PhilHealth Benchbook
  11. Preparation for Joint Commission International
